Progress Wrestling Chapter 72: Got Got Need Preview & Predictions
Progress Wrestling Chapter 72: Got Got Need Preview & Predictions
Progress Wrestling returns home to the Electric Ballroom in Camden this Sunday for Chapter 72: Got Got Need. With an exciting looking card that will see some new faces debut and some familiar favourites return it promises to be a fun show.
British Strong Style vs Besties in the World & Josh Alexander
British Strong Style return to a Progress ring to compete as a threesome for the first time since November 2017 as they take on Besties in the World & Josh Alexander (making his Progress debut).
After making their Progress debut earlier this month (defeat to M&M) Besties in the World will be looking to pick up what would be a huge victory in front of the Ballroom crowd. Davey Vega & Mat Fitchett are well known for their innovative tag team moves which could prove a real challenge to BSS when aligned with the tough grappling style of Josh Alexander. Pete Dunne, Trent Seven & Tyler Bate will arrive in Camden on the back of an incredible two nights at the Royal Albert Hall as part of the WWE UK Championship Tournament. They defeated Undisputed Era (Adam Cole, Kyle O'Reilly, Roderick Strong) in a six-man tag team match on night one. This was then followed up on night two by Dunne successfully defending his UK Championship against Zack Gibson but not before Seven & Bate (Moustache Mountain) had defeated Kyle O'Reilly and Roderick Strong (Undisputed Era) to become the new NXT Tag Team Champions. British Strong Style are arguably the leading talents of the booming UK scene, they will undoubtedly play a huge part in the newly announced NXT UK brand and should have too much for their opponents on Sunday.
Prediction: British Strong Style
Charlie Morgan w/ The House of Couture vs Laura Di Matteo
Two women with a point to prove go head to head as Charlie Morgan and Laura Di Matteo look to score what could be an important win in the Progress womens division. Morgan comes in to this match following defeat in her Progress Womens Championship match with then Champion Toni Storm at SSS16 in May. Despite a highly impressive showing Morgan came up short before House of Couture leader Jinny would later claim the title at Chapter 69. Her opponent Laura Di Matteo appears in Progress for the first time since SSS16 where she was victorious alongside Millie McKenzie & Sierra Loxton against The House of Couture (Jinny, Nina Samuels, Chakara). Both women will be aware that a victory here will put them in a strong position to build towards a potential shot at current Champion Jinny further down the line. Morgan may well hold a key advantage as her stablemates will be at ringside with Jinny no doubt keen to prevent potential threat Di Matteo from picking up any kind of momentum in Progress.
Prediction: Charlie Morgan w/ The House of Couture
Doug Williams (c) vs Michael Dante - Progress Atlas Championship Match
Reigning Progress Atlas Champion Doug Williams makes his first title defence as he faces the man that earned number one contender status at Chapter 71 Michael Dante. When Williams won the then vacant Atlas Championship at Chapter 69 it was seen by many as a shock victory following a relatively disappointing record in Progress for the British wrestling legend. In fact due to this poor record and certain injury issues that he is carrying many had speculated that the Fatal 4-Way match at Chapter 69 may well be the last of Williams' professional career. Instead he went on to claim the title and declare afterwards that he would continue to wrestle until he loses the Progress Atlas Championship. As for his opponent Michael Dante this match provides a huge opportunity for the former Progress Tag Team Champion to claim his first singles title in Progress. Dante will arrive full of confidence following his impressive victory over Damien Corvin at Chapter 71 and will be a stern test for the defending Champion. Williams is likely have the backing of the Camden crowd as all will be fully aware every match they see him have in Progress could well be his last and will be hoping this isn't it.
Prediction: Doug Williams
CCK vs Mills & Mayhew -Tag Team Thunderbastard Series
Following a 7 month injury lay off the surprise return of Kid Lykos at Chapter 71 means that the reunited team of CCK make their first appearance in the Tag Team Thunderbastard Series against Mills & Mayhew. The series hasn't got off to the best of starts for M&M with two defeats, firstly against Aussie Open then against Haskins & Flash. The talented youngsters will therefore be looking to build on their recent win against Besties in the World by picking up what would be a surprise victory against the former Progress Tag Team Champions. After he revealed that Kid Lykos was refusing to attend Progress shows it had been announced that Chris Brookes would compete in the series as a singles competitor in what would be tag team handicap matches. He will no doubt be delighted that his best friend and tag team partner returned at Chapter 71 just as Haskins & Flash looked to attack and potentially prevent him from being able to compete at all. It will be interesting to see how quickly Brookes and Lykos can get on the same page after 7 months without being in the ring together however their pedigree is not in doubt as one of the best tag teams the UK has seen in recent years.
Prediction: CCK
Mark Davis vs Chris Ridgeway - Natural Progression Series Final
The Natural Progression Series will reach its finale on Sunday as "Dunkzilla" Mark Davis goes one on one with Chris Ridgeway. Both men have lived up to the tag of favourites in reaching the final and the clash of size and styles should provide an intriguing match. Davis will hold a size and power advantage over his smaller opponent however Ridgeway has speed and vicious striking ability particularly with his kicks. One potential disadvantage for Davis could be the distraction of the Tag Team Thunderbastard Series (as part of Aussie Open) alongside this series whereas Ridgeway is solely focused on singles competition. With the prize of being not only a Natural Progression Series winner but also a Progress title shot of their choice, this contest is extremely difficult to call.
Prediction: Chris Ridgeway
Will Ospreay vs Jordan Devlin
For the first time since he returned at SSS16 to challenge Jimmy Havoc to a match at Wembley "The Aerial Assassin" Will Ospreay returns to singles competition in Progress as he faces Jordan Devlin. The former Progress Champion will be looking to display why he is regarded as one of the most exciting talents in professional wrestling and also start to build some winning momentum ahead of the hotly anticipated match with Havoc this September. Jordan Devlin will provide a real challenge for Ospreay as he looks to further enhance his growing reputation in Progress following some fantastic performances over SSS16 weekend.
Prediction: Will Ospreay
Travis Banks w/ TK Cooper vs Chuck Mambo - Progress World Championship Match
After winning the Progress World Cup (representing England) Chuck Mambo was rewarded with a match for a Progress Championship of his choice and he will take that shot against Travis Banks this Sunday. Mambo has enjoyed a highly impressive run in Progress since a breakout SSS16 weekend and has quickly become a firm favourite with the Progress crowd. As for the reigning Champion it will provide an opportunity to extend his record as the Progress Champion with the most successful title defences (17) and also round off an impressive week in which he reached the final of the WWE UK Championship Tournament. The key to this match however could be TK Cooper as he will see his loyalty torn between two of his closest friends. As part of the South Pacific Power Trip he will want to see Banks hold on to his title however as seen in their fantastic Youtube series "Escaping the Midcard" he is also extremely close to Mambo. If TK decides to intervene in any way then he may find himself deciding who leaves with the Progress Championship on Sunday.
Pediction: Travis Banks
